View Article  My Music

I have included this section in order to demonstrate another aspect of TurkBlogs flexibility. As long time members of the Absolutely Altinkum forum will know, whilst we can post photographs and copy documents into our posts, we cannot upload other files such as music or video. Well with TurkBlogs you can.

I have called this section ‘My Music’ in order to demonstrate how easy it is to upload music files to share with friends or family or the world at large. The only issue I have had to consider here is one of copyright – obviously I could get into trouble were I to put commercial songs on here. So to overcome this I have included some rubbish that I wrote and recorded with the help of a computer and midi keyboard a few years ago. This way I don’t get into trouble although the downside is that I inflict my music to die to (as somebody once described it) onto the world at large.

The only exception to this is ‘Keep Moving’ which was written by my daughter Danielle and 3 of her friends and sung by her. Now you will realise she definitely didn’t get her talent from me.

View Article  All About Altinkum
The town of Altinkum is situated on the Aegean coast of Turkey, 56 miles north west of Bodrum airport. It is positioned in a lovely bay backed by some gently, rising hills. Although relatively small at present, the resort is fast growing as its popularity increases. The resort front is entirely pedestrianised. Altinkum has mainly British patrons, although it is very popular with the Turkish during peak season (The Turks all have a 2 week holiday in August). There is also a town centre about a 20-25 minute walk from the resort seafront and is primarily used by the locals. ...   more »
View Article  Promoting Pamukkale

Until forty or fifty years ago, Pamukkale was a place where travelers who happened to pass by found peace and tranquillity and the opportunity for quiet meditation by the side of the sacred spring that still lies exposed, amid the few ancient columns and in the deep silence of the tombs that lay scattered over the countryside to the west and extended out towards the surrounding hills. In spite of the doubtful merits of present-day developments, and in spite of all the ugly building construction that has taken place, the seething crowds, the noise and pollution, one can still confidently ...   more »

View Article  Decidedly Didyma

Didyma is located near the village of Yenihisar (Yoran) near the town of Söke in the province of Aydýn in the Aegean region. Here one finds an important sanctuary that housed one of the oracles of Apollo. It was connected to Miletus by sea, and those arriving by ship would land at the harbour of Panormus and thence follow the Sacred way to Didyma. Until its destruction by the Persians in 494 B.C. it was administered by the family of the Branchidae, the descendants of Bronchos, a youth beloved of Apollo. For the last two kilometers the Sacred Way was ...   more »

View Article  Positively Priene

map_priene.gif (14878 bytes)Priene, now known as Güllübahçe, was an ancient city of Ionia in Western Anatolia situated some 20 km from Söke. Excavations here were begun by Carl Human in 1895 and completed by Th. Wiegand in 1898. The ruins of Priene present one of the most striking examples of the grid type of town-planning associated with the name of Hippodamos. The plan of Priene was based on that of Athens and, as the ancient town is located on a slope at the foot of a great cliff of rock, the grid plan is displayed in all its magnificence. Temples and other ...   more »
